So who all here has been confused about tarts like? I mean, I know it is the base of most desserts. But aside from being a dessert monster, I also like to learn the technicalities of cooking. So I set out on a mission to figure out what tarts really are. And if you are someone like me who cannot devour a dessert without doing a one hundred percent inspection on the making of the desert, then this crash course on tarts is really going to help you and make you a dessert nerd amongst your peers.

Are tarts the same as pies?

Definitely not. The differences are not major but they sure are specific and set each other apart in significant ways. Tart crust is definitely it’s own kind of thing. It’s not the same thing as pie crust. Pie crust is a little buttery and not too sweet. It has a very fragile texture whereas a tart crust has a soft but crunchy texture like a cookie.

A tart is a sweet or savory dish with shallow sides and only a bottom crust. Tart crusts are usually made from pastry dough: traditionally flour, unsalted butter, cold water, and sometimes sugar.

If the crust of your tart is crumbly then know that you have mastered the art of making the perfect tarts.

What are the best tart recipes that you must try?

  1. French Lemon Cream Tart

When we speak of tarts how can we not talk about the classic lemon tart. That was the first kind of tart that I ever tried. The tangy and sweet flavour stayed with me for so long that even after so many years it remains my absolute favorite. The two ingredients that make this recipe stand out are the zest and egg yolk. With some of the most basic ingredients you make this classy French lemon cream tart recipe.

2. Apple and Vanilla Tart

This tart not only tastes amazing but it looks straight out of heaven. The glazed top and the crumbly tasty go well with each other. Similarly, the flavour of apple and vanilla complement each other more than one could expect.

3. Custard Tart

If you like the combination of soft crunch and buttery, creamy filling then you ought to try this custard tart. This tart has one of the richest flavours and textures that are hard to not make you drool and ask for seconds, or even thirds.

Once you start making tarts, there’s no going back from that. You will always want to have them for desserts. And the day you become good at baking them, you would make them at every chance you get.
