These Indian festive desserts will leave you blown
I have a sweet tooth and I blame my Indian culture. Or should I say, I credit my Indian culture for that. I love all kinds of desserts but of course Indian sweets are my most favourite. They have such rich flavours, textures, spices, and dry fruits. Almost every Indian festival has a special sweet for it. And since there are so many diverse festivals throughout the year, it is easy to get your hands on different kind of sweets.
Today, I bring you sweets that will satiate your cravings, that are perfect for festivals, for little celebrations, and for midnight munchies. Plus, you can make them with ingredients you can find around the home.
I know that some of these Indian dessert recipes are have special significance, special occasions and holidays but when you crave something, when some desserts are as good as these, you should make them all year long.
They all require different combinations and cooking techniques. You can also add a western touch to it. But today, I am keeping it authentic.
These chewy desserts are one of the classics. This dessert only needs a few basic pantry ingredients and the cooking method is extremely simple and quick. This recipe will only take a few minutes. This recipe is made with corn flour or starch. You can make it in red or orange in color but can be made in any colour or shape that you would like it to be.
2. Basundi
When it comes to Indian desserts, you will notice that we use milk for a lot of our recipes. Many similar recipes like kheer, basundi, sheer kurma, and basundi have similar cooking methods and ingredients. Basundi is an Indian recipe made by boiling milk till it gets thick. For the best flavours you will need sugar, cardamom, rose water, saffron, and some dry fruits of your choice.
3. Chikki
Chikki or Indian peanut brittle is one of the fun ways to eat peanuts. This dessert is healthy, rich in micro nutrients, good fats, and also protein. But it depends on the ingredients you use to cook. Ideally, it can be only made with peanuts and jaggery. But you can use sugar, or date syrup or even honey for this. But for the best flavour and texture, you should stick to jaggery. There are many versions to this dessert as instead of peanuts you can use sesame seeds, almonds, or cashews as your main ingredient. This two-ingredient dessert is a hit amongst kids.
4. Shrikhand
Shrikhand is a sweet and savoury dessert that comes in various flavours and it was a must in our household for Sunday brunch. You can make shrikhand at home with hung curd, ground cardamom, pistachios, and sugar. For flavours you can make it with fruits like mangoes, strawberries, dates, saffron, etc. It’s best to have this dessert cold. You can have it as it is or you can have it with puri. Trust me puri and shrikhand is one of the most wholesome combinations.
