Try these Indian street food recipes at home
Who here is a sucker for street food? And who here is religious about Indian street food? Definitely me! Out of the many goals I have set for myself, one of the most important of them is to eat every street food that there is in India.
Every time somebody speaks of Indian street food, we mostly just consider Mumbai and Delhi street food? While they have the best of the street food in the world, I would like to go out on a limb here and say that there’s still so much more that Indian street food has to offer.
The streets of Amritsar, Kolkata, Indore, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Goa, Ahmedabad have so much to offer. So far, I have only got my hands on a couple of authentic street foods. But then I decided, till I get to visit these states, their cities and devour all the street food that they have, I should keep making them home and satiate my undying craving to try them as soon as possible.
Here’s what I have on the list so far. Join me?
To be honest, I have had more than my share of variety of sandwiches. So when I tried street style masala junglee sandwich recipe I knew exactly what I was looking to make and guess what? It turned out how I expected it to. It’s literally just about adding up layers and layers of stuffing and vegetables.
2. Pani Puri
Ever since Corona, I haven’t had pani puri or any chaat on the street. But that only made my immune system and cooking stronger. I usually make pani puri all from scratch. But sometime I get those ready to make pudina pani and the puris. I make ragda at home myself as well as the tamarind chutney. Basically, I can now have a pani puri party by myself anytime I want.
3. Soy Chaap
Soy chaap is delightful, or may I say a heavenly street food option for vegans or vegetarians. You can make this at home with ready made soy chaap sticks available online. All you have to do is fry them or slice them, add some chaat masala some non-dairy or dairy cream and voila! It’s ready!
4. Dabeli
Dabeli is a delicacy from the streets of Mumbai which is made with pav and a stuffing of potatoes, masalas, fruits like grapes, pomegranates, and peanuts. It’s really easy to make at home and if you do, you better make a big batch because you won’t stop at two or three.
5. Tunday Kebab
Hailing all the way from the royal Mughal times and the streets of Lucknow, next on my list is tunday kebab. This recipe is available across the country and I say that if you could, you should try them all at least once in life. You can make this recipe paneer or soy if you are a vegetarian.
There are so many Indian street foods that I have not covered in this blog. To name a few- momos, misal pav, pav bhaji, daulat ki chaat, kachori, lassi, chhole kulche, papdi chaat, fafda jalebi and so much more.
