Veg Dishes from Karnataka You Must Try!
Every time I talk about South Indian recipes, people always assume it is going to be about fishes, rasam, sambar, dosas, and idlis. Well, to be honest they are not wrong. These are some South Indian dishes that I cannot talk about enough. But not today folks.
Today, I come to you with some vegetarian dishes from Karnataka. You will find out some new recipes and some newer versions of recipes that you know about. Basically, there’s something for all.
Rice bath is vegetable pulao but with a twist. Unlike regular pulao in this version you add a green paste of herbs and spices. This is the base masala for this recipe. You sauté it with your choice of vegetables, rice and other spices. The rice used for this recipe is sona masoori rice. The texture of this rice a bit different from basmati rice. You’ll like it!
2. Shenga Undu or Peanut Ladoo Recipe
Shenga also known as peanuts is a great source of protein. You can make this ladoo with just two ingredients- peanuts and jaggery. Sure you can add other ingredients like ghee, spices, sugar, dry fruits, etc. But even just these two ingredients make this a wholesome dessert slash snack that you can gobble down at any time of the day.
3. Raw Jackfruit Fry Recipe
Jackfruit is used very commonly in South Indian recipes, both ripe and raw. For this recipe all you need is raw jackfruit, coconut, red chili, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, salt, and jaggery. This dish goes very well with chapatis and rice. It makes for a wholesome lunch or dinner.
4. Avalakki Upkari or Thin Poha Recipe
Poha is a very versatile ingredient and is also the go-to breakfast option for Indians. In this recipe, you can make a poha snack that you can store. You can make it spicy or sweet. All you need to do is mix all your masalas, add poha and a nice tadka if you want to add an extra spicy flavour.
5. Chigali or Imli ki Goli Recipe
Imli ki goli is a candy that every child craves for. It is really common to find them in rural areas in India. They were a thing in the cities too but it’s been years since I spotted one. I know I cannot be the only one. So I bring this recipe for you. You can make it home with only a couple of ingredients like tamarind, cumin powder, salt, jaggery, chili powder, and oil. Mix it, grind it, roll it on sticks. Done! It’s that simple.
