Ways to level up your brownie game
Whether on a strict no sugar diet or regardless of when you had your last meal, there’s always a sweet spot for brownies. It’s needless for me to say but baking has obviously been a trial and error for me before I figured out the right pockets to give it just the right amount of consistency and have a crunchy crust on the outside. I know the feeling of using all the ingredients just as required and still ending up with brownie fails like slimy texture or t the base stuck to the bottom. *Virtually screaming as I recall the memory of those days*. I feel you!!! That’s exactly why I am here to share a few things I learnt in my journey of trial and error with one of the most loved and experimented desserts, Brownies!!
Salt
One ingredient that no one talks about while making anything chocolate is salt. Salt brings out the balance of flavour you want in your final product. Brownies can be a real challenge when it comes to balancing flavours. You don’t want it too sweet or bitter or too plain. A pinch of salt with the remaining ingredients will help you elevate a balanced flavour in your recipe.
Add coffee
I’ve been super stubborn about experimenting with extra ingredients thinking it’d ruin the essence of my original recipe. But trust me, a little experiment won’t harm. Unless you end up pouring more water/milk, that’s definitely ruining your consistency. Coffee and chocolate are like best friends that are lowkey about their fabulous relationship. Adding a teaspoon or two or instant coffee or espresso powder will boost the chocolatey flavour of your brownie.
Swirl it up a little
Being a big fan of devouring different flavours in my dishes, I personally love experimenting with additional flavours by swirling the top of my batter with Nutella, Caramel or Peanut Butter to redefine the intensity of the brownie. What’s best is that you don’t have to worry about topping it up with other frostings. But if you do feel like it, you should definitely try the chocolate fudge frosting recipe. The swirl gives it a beautiful finish. You should definitely give it a try.
Milk/ Water?
This is the most common doubt while preparing the batter. While milk can add richness to the consistency you’re aiming for, water can bring out the balance to the extra thickness milk can create. So my answer is, add both. While keeping milk as your major portion of ingredient, use water to balance out the excessive thickness of the batter.
Although the list to experiment is endless, these are some really untried ways to say goodbye to your brownie fails. There are also a few things like adding a pinch of vanilla essence or satisfying your craving for nutty crunch by adding roasted nuts to your batter. I hope you end up baking yourself the perfect brownie but make sure you don’t demould or cut or dig unless it’s well set. Go grab a slice and let me know which of these suggestions sat well with your taste buds!
